And exposed the U.S. Department of Defense for sharp criticism in recent months because of its inability to send an intervention force in a timely manner to respond to an attack on the consulate in Benghazi, killing four people, including Ambassador in September.
The spokesman added that these elements of the military who will likely ensure the safety of diplomatic premises or evacuation of American diplomats, stationed at the base Sitjonala of NATO in Sicily, did not provide further clarification.
Washington ordered, last Wednesday, to leave a section of the workers at the embassy in Tripoli, in response to the deteriorating security situation following the blockade imposed on the two ministries armed groups.

If I had been Hagel, I would have written off the nomination and answered: “You, Senator Graham, and your 40 craven colleagues.”

The real question is: Who in the Congress is not afraid of the Israel Lobby?
The hatchet job on Hagel is driven by fear of the Israel Lobby.
Perhaps the worst affront Israel’s American representatives ever inflicted on the US military was the coverup of the Israeli air and torpedo boat attack on the USS Liberty in 1967. The Israeli attack failed to sink the Liberty but killed and wounded most of the crew. The survivors were ordered to silence, and it was 12 years before one of them spoke up and revealed what had happened (James Ennes, Assault On The Liberty). Not even Admiral Thomas Moorer, Chief of Naval Operations and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff could get Washington to own up to the facts.
The facts are now well known, but as far as Washington is concerned they are dead letter facts. The entire event has been moved to some parallel universe.
Why are the Senate Republicans out to destroy Hagel for Israel?
The answer is, first, back when Hagel was a US Senator he refused to be intimidated by the Israel Lobby and declared, “I am a US Senator, not an Israeli Senator.” In other words, Hagel did the impermissible. He said he represented US interests, not Israel’s interests. Hagel’s position implies that the interests of the two countries are not identical, which is a heresy.
The second part of the answer is that Hagel doesn’t think that it is a good idea for the US to start a war with Iran or for the US to permit Israel to do so.
But a US war with Iran is what the Israeli government and its neoconservative agents have been trying to impose on the Obama regime. Israel wants to get rid of Iran, because Iran supports Hizbollah in Southern Lebanon, thus preventing Israel from annexing that territory and its water resources, and because Iran supports Hamas, the only Palestinian organization that tries to oppose Israel’s total theft of Palestine, although Iran has never supplied Hamas with effective weapons.
The two organizations that oppose Israel’s territorial expansion, Hizbollah and Hamas, represent large numbers of Arab peoples. Nevertheless, both are declared, on Israel’s orders, to be “terrorist organizations” by the servile US Department of State, which in all reality should be called the Israeli Department of State, as it never puts US interests before Israel’s.
In other words, Hagel did not grovel. He did not say how much he loved Israel and how it would be his great honor to sacrifice all other interests to Israel’s, how he has waited his entire life for the chance to serve Israel as the US Secretary of Defense.
Hagel is not an opponent of Israel. He merely said, “First, I am an American.” His lack of craven subservience is unacceptable to the Israel Lobby, which has branded him an “anti-semite.”
Lindsay Graham, in contrast, has what it takes to be Israel’s perfect choice for US Secretary of Defense.
Graham will go out of his way to please the Israel Lobby. He will pull out all stops and behave with maximum servility to a foreign power in his effort to embarrass the President of the United States and his nominee, a war veteran and former US Senator who simply thinks that the US Congress and the executive branch should put American interests first.
Senate Majority Leader Reid has used Senate rules to keep Hagel’s nomination alive.
If Lindsay Graham succeeds in doing the Israel Lobby’s dirty work, he will have handed a defeat of the US President to the Israeli Prime Minister, who has demeaned the President of the United States for not doing Israel’s bidding and attacking Iran.

By abdicating its war power, Congress lost its control of the purse. As the executive branch withholds more and more information from Congressional oversight committees, Congress is becoming increasingly powerless. As Washington’s war debts mount, Washington’s attack on the social safety net will become more intense. Governmental institutions that provide services to Americans will wither as more tax revenues are directed to the coffers of special interests and foreign entanglements.
The tenuous connection between the US government and the interests of citizens is on its way to being severed entirely.

Ocampo, has shown even the ridiculous and unprofessional it is to turn around lately praising the already discredited in favor of Museveni viral video PR KONY 2012 for Invisible Children. One wonders if he ever Ocampo was the spokesman for justice fighter who allegedly had been in Argentina. Certainly his conduct with respect to Uganda raises many questions.
Ocampo has also ignored the crimes of Laurent Nkunda in the Congo. Nkunda is now a visit from General Kagame of Rwanda, Paul, who, through stunning public relations, is marketed as El Salvador to Rwanda: when in fact suspected of playing a role in the downing of the plane carrying the Presidents of Rwanda and Burundi in 1994,sparked the massacres that killed an estimated one million Rwandans. The United Nations “mapping report” also linked Kagame military forces in the genocide of Hutus.
Ocampo behavior has generated a lot of cynicism and contempt for the ICC.
There are even questions whether he intentionally endangered the court, raised doubts about whether it should be punished even before his term expires.
On June 8, 2006 The Wall Street Journal reported that high-level colleagues at the ICC Ocampo were horrified when he appeared with General Museveni, in a press conference to announce the indictment of Kony’s LRA. They were horrified because the partners were aware that the General Museveni was a candidate for a possible indictment.
Congo had referred to the ICC for investigation, the same crimes for which the International Court of Justice had already been found liable for Uganda in 2005 and received $ 10 billion in compensation. The Wall Street Journal reported that General Museveni had contacted the then Secretary General, Kofi Annan, and urged him to block the ICC investigation.
While Annan said he had no such powers to block the investigation, another person might have forced: General Museveni remains charged and the International Criminal Court has refused to answer several questions from The Black Star News about the state of research the ICC on alleged crimes committed by the Ugandan army in Congo.
Moreover, Ocampo has offered an absurd argument that the ICC can only investigate crimes committed after the Rome Statute which created the court and entered into force on 1 July 2002. Ocampo falsehoods not hold water.
To begin with, Uganda, not officially ended its occupation of the Congo’s Ituri region until the end of 2003.Even more important and damning, the effective occupation of Uganda and the crimes continued through their affiliated militias such as the command of Thomas Lubanga.Por course,Lubangawas later accused, tried and convicted.

In 2006, it was reported that 151 members of Congress had up to $195.5 million of their personal assets invested in defense corporations.
It’s now 2012 and I can only imagine that thoseCongressmenhave made a good deal of return on their investments.
These are the same people who vote to keep funding all the wars we fight and insure that we are in continued conflicts world wide.
Moreover, the CEO’s of these‘defense’corporations sit on advisery boards that draft and implement foriegn policy. Clearly, anybody can see that‘peace’is not good for their business,so in who’s interests are they advising?
Last week we uncovered how many billions of dollars the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are costing the American taxpayers. We all know that war costs a lot of money. What we don’t know is that the same people who profit off the wars we create have a direct influence in shaping the foreign policy that keeps America at war while putting millions of dollars in their own pockets.
Here is the way our government system is supposed to work: foreign policy is supposed to be drafted between the President and Congress, and the Secretary of State. In the present administration, this is Hillary Clinton. She is supposed to serve as the President’s main foreign policy advisor. What is foreign policy? Foreign policy is a set of goals outlining how a country will interact with other countries economically, politically, socially and militarily. These days, many of our elected representatives have become merely the messengers of foreign policy prescriptions that were created by councils and think tanks comprised of CEOs and executives from the biggest corporations in the world. On these councils sit executives from every major industry from food to media and, most shockingly, national defense.
Is if there is a conflict of interest when CEOs of the largest defense corporations are advising our lawmakers on foreign policy? Before you decide ask yourself this: if you were the CEO of Lockheed Martin, the largest defense corporation in America, and 95% of your company’s $35 billion dollar annual profit came directly from government contracts that employ you to supply war materials, would you want the war to end? Especially if you personally enjoyed a $21 million increase in compensation from 2005 to 2008 as a result of the War on Terror? Between 2001 and 2005, defense corporations’ annual profits climbed 189%, and the CEOs of these corporations that benefited the most from this profit increase sit on councils together with our politicians to “recommend,”“suggest” and “prescribe” foreign policy.
In this episode of YOURTRUTH, we are going to take a look at how much influence the CEOs of the top defense corporations have on the shaping of our foreign policy, specifically the foreign policy that has kept us at war. Let’s start with Robert Stevens, who we mentioned earlier is the CEO and President of Lockheed Martin, the number one defense corporation in the nation. Stevens is the presiding director of Monsanto, the largest manufacturer and distributor of genetically modified seeds, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a member of the Advisory Board to the Atlantic Council. So what are these councils?
The Council on Foreign Relations is a powerful think tank comprised of the worlds’ biggest CEOs and executives in banking, oil, media, mining, food, real estate investment, and politics. A few of the most recognizable political members include David Rockefeller, John McCain, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, and Madeleine Albright. President of the CFR, Richard Hass, was the former Director of policy planning for the Department of State. CFR board member Richard Holbrooke is Obama’s Special Advisor on Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to their website, one of their functions is to sponsor “independent task forces that produce policy prescriptions on the most important foreign policy topics.” Let’s not forget that corporate CEOs don’t take an oath to serve the best interest of the American people: their primary obligation is to maximize company profits.
I know, we all want to believe that our politicians are incorruptible and won’t take corporate dollars that might sway their decision making. But would millions of dollars sway you? According to recent reports from OpenSecrets.org, 151 members of Congress in 2006 had up to $195.5 million of their personal assets invested in defense corporations. What does this mean?
When members of our Congress vote to keep us in war, are they really doing it for the safety of the American people, or are they doing it because their stocks will increase, giving them a bigger payout?
Major defense corporations were seriously involved in the 2008 elections as well. Lockheed Martin gave $2,612,219 in total political campaign donations, with 49% to Democrats ($1,285,493) and 51% to Republicans ($1,325,159). Boeing gave $2,225,947 in 2008 with 58% going to Democrats and General Dynamics provided $1,682,595 to both parties. Northrop Grumman spent over $20 million in 2008, hiring lobbyists to influence Congress, and Raytheon spent $6 million on lobbyists in the same period. Wow. That is a lot of money… I wonder what these corporations expect in return for their campaign handouts?
Well, all we have to do is look at the policy prescriptions they help draft and provide to our politicians. For example, let’s take a look at the Atlantic Council’s most recent proposal, outlining U.S. policy objectives with Pakistan.Senator John Kerry, who personally has over $30 million invested in defense companies, and Atlantic Council chairman Chuck Hagel just recently proposed the plan to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for review.
So what is the Atlantic Council? Well according to their website, they focus on “drafting roadmaps for U.S. policy towards the Balkans, Cuba, Iraq, Iran and Libya.” Other than Robert Stevens, CEO of Lockheed Martin, who else belongs to this council? Corporate membership includes all four of the top four defense corporations in the country: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon. Another interesting fact is that General Jim Jones left as chairman of the Atlantic Council to work as Obama’s National Security Advisor, and four other prominent officials from Obama’s administration are also members: Susan Rice, Richard Holbrooke, General Eric Shinseki, and Anne-Marie Slaughter.
In both the Council on Foreign Relations and the Atlantic Council we see corporate CEOs and politicians working together to draft and implement foreign policy that will financially benefit those invested in the defense industry. Whose interest does this serve: the American people who are paying their hard earned tax dollars for these wars, the CEOs of defense corporations who are profiting from these wars, or the politicians who are personally invested in continuing these wars? Need more proof of the revolving door relationship between corporations and government? According to Project Censored, President Obama recently nominated Raytheon’s Senior VP for government operations and strategy, William Lynn, for the number two position at the Pentagon.
One of the other top defense corporations is Boeing. Current CEO of Boeing, James McNerney, Jr. is a sitting member of the Business Roundtable. What is the Business Roundtable? CEOs of the top 160 corporations present government officials with “reasoned alternatives and positive policy suggestions.” Also, it is not unusual for Business Roundtable members to meet with the President and his staff in private.
Northrop Grumman, the 4th largest defense corporation in the world, saw net sales of $7.6 billion in 2000 skyrocket to nearly $34 billion by 2008. According to Corpwatch, at least seven former officials, consultants or shareholders of Northrop Grumman held positions in the George W. Bush administration. It is also noteworthy that, in the last ten years, Northrop Grumman shelled out $8.5 million in campaign contributions to both parties.
To spell it out, defense corporations are making millions by the wars we create. Our politicians are also financially benefiting from the wars we create. The cozy relationship that many in our government have with the most powerful leaders in the defense industry should be a significant cause for concern for any taxpaying American. If our foreign policy decisions are intertwined with the business interests of major corporations, the voices and opinions of American voters will be sidelined and ignored. The time is now to stop the corruption and end this war. Tune in next week to find out what people are doing all over the world to end this war and restore peace. While they can pretend all they want, NATO lost the war against Libya. The stated purpose of NATO’s mission according to the UN Resolutions was to “protect civilians.” A huge farce, they coined the ridiculous term R2P, right to “protect.” On that count, NATO is a failure, a total and complete disaster
It is estimated that at least 100,000 Libyans have been murdered both by NATO bombings and by actions of the terrorists and mercenaries that NATO has dumped into the country. NATO used dirty weapons, depleted uranium, cluster bombs, white phosphorous and fuel air bombs…horrid anti-human weapons of mass murder.
NATO’s Rasmussen, in an arrogant, smug statement called the Libya operation which killed thousands of civillians ‘one of the most successful in NATO history.’ When they make the claim the mission was to protect civilians, it is unfathomable for him or anyone to say that they were “successful.” Rasmussen and all the other criminals of NATO are shameless.
Their true mission was to stage a coup against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, which is why there is all the crowing about a “victory” and “success.”
NATO is so very concerned about civilians that their use of depleted uranium has deposited into the Libyan atmosphere radiation of unknown magnitude. By comparison, the radiation in Iraq they are responsible for equals 250,000 Nagasaki bombs.
It is time for the citizens of the world to wake up and see what’s being done in their name.
Would they approve their government arming and supporting terrorists who are listed on government terrorist lists?
Making it possible for many weapons from Libya to fall into the hands of al Qaeda so that now they are listed as one of the most well equipped armies in the world?
Will there be tears and gnashing of teeth when one of those shoulder fired missles shoots down a civilian airliner?
Is your government “fighting terrorism” or is it enabling terrorism and causing it to strengthen, increase and grow in unprecedented proportions?
Is your government installing a gaggle of terrorists as a “government”?
How does that work?
NATO has exposed itself for what it really is. It is a cold blooded killing machine, a terrorist organization steeped in the filth of its own lies and pretentions.
NATO was morally defeated by the truth. The ideas of Gaddafi are now spreading worldwide where before they were unknown.NATO will be militarily defeated by the freedom resistance forces of Libya, by people who refuse to give up their way of life and the country of their heritage, a great and proud heritage.
Popularly elected Alexander Lukashenko noted that while he is constantly being referred to improperly as the “last dictator of Europe” no one elected the charlatan murderous criminals of the EU. They appointed themselves.
Elections in the west are a farce, only the rich who have been approved by the elites can hope to be “elected.” With “hanging chards” the results are manipulated from beginning to end.
On the other hand, the Libyan Jamahiriya cannot be defeated because it’s the democratic will of the people, not some single leader. People’s committees regularly make the decisions. NATO’s so-called act of decapitation has only resulted in the people reorganizing their collective will.
The act of decapitation exists only in the dreams, will and fantasy of the western scum. The Libyan people, united against NATO and its terrorists cannot be defeated. There is no love for that scurvy that has turned the country into a hell on earth, one where any turning the corner might lead to death, torture, mutilation, rape, robbery. Women cannot go out of the house, they are not safe in the house, nor are children. Being black is a death sentence.
So if their purpose was to decapitate Libya, again, NATO has failed miserably. With this history of abject failure, NATO creeps into position to move against their next victims: Syria and Iran. Who is going to stop them and call them to account for their many crimes?

UN silent despite no basis for NATO’s illegal war on Libya

The situation in Sirte is dire. Six weeks under siege after months of aerial attacks. Children and old people dead of hunger and thirst. Water supply hit. Hospitals without medical supplies to treat the ill and injured, and then bombed by NATO. The dead lying in the streets.
Constant ‘targeted’ nightly aerial bombardment by NATO air forces. Constant ‘fire at will’ daytime attacks from ill-disciplined NTC rebels using tanks, rockets, mortars and howitzers.
In their missile-launcher-laden graffiti-decorated pick-up trucks, the rebels drive into the city edges in the morn and back out by dark, hailed as ‘freedom-fighters’ by their embedded foreign press, they more resemble armed gangs. Some are Libyan, dissatisfied with policies of their current government. Some have returned after years abroad with historical differences to settle. Others are LIFG veterans wanting to set up a stricter Islamic fundamentalism. Qatari forces, UK SAS and CIA are known to have been on the ground in Libya. The battle-hardened are Al Qaeda and mercenaries on the pay-roll of interested parties, who follow where wars lead them, so long as they are paid well to kill, or have licence to loot and rape.
How did this ever come to be?
The specific phrases in UNSC resolution #1973, which NATO nations say permit them to conduct and support this military action in Libya, are “no-fly zone”, “all necessary measures” and “to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack.”
That’s it. A few words. Innocuous enough until NATO twisted them beyond recognition.
With Orwellian duplicity, air strikes replace ‘no-fly’, war becomes a ‘necessary measure’, and killing civilians constitutes their ‘protection’. Seven months later, 25,280 NATO air sorties later, including 9,391 strike sorties, and more than 50,000 human beings are dead, civilian infrastructure is destroyed, and a sovereign nation is in crisis.
The distortion of those few words’ intended meaning was almost certainly a factor in the veto by Russia and China of the recent UN resolution against Syria. NATO’s actions in Libya are clearly seen to violate UNSC resolution #1973, and some member states are wary.
Oh, and the evidence that Libyan people needed protecting from imminent danger of their own government firing on them? Remembering that this pre-emptive NATO action was to “stop Gaddafi from launching a massacre of his own people.”
No evidence was ever produced.
On 1 March, two weeks after the accusations, when asked if he had seen any evidence that Gaddafi intended to fire on citizens, then U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said, “We’ve seen the press reports but we have no confirmation.” And U.S Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen added, “That’s right. We’ve seen no confirmation whatsoever.”
So did NATO attack Libya on the basis of a press report?
Secretary Gates knew there was no legal basis when he also stated that “the UN Security Council resolution provides no authorisation for the use of armed force.” Gates would be gone by June, replaced by ex-CIA director Leon Panetta.
On 31 March, as NATO strikes on Libya began, more questions were asked of Gates and Mullen by the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee. “Was al Qaeda involved in Libya?” Mullen answered, “We haven’t seen anything, other than aspirational, from al Qaeda leadership.” Gates said that Gaddafi was “trying to ‘gen’ up the narrative that the opposition is in fact led by al Qaeda.”
When asked “Do either one of you believe that the Libyan people would stand for an al Qaeda-led Libya?” “Absolutely no evidence to support that,” said Gates, and Mullen, “No, I don’t.”
Gates, in explanation, added that “the real power in Libya is in the hands of these tribes, and even Gaddafi realises (sic) that, and I just don’t understand how it would be possible for these tribes to want to cede any of that authority to some outside crowd like al Qaeda.”
Interesting. Here we have U.S. Secretary of Defense Gates supporting what Gaddafi, rather than merely ‘realising’, has always strongly stated. Which is that in Libya the real power is in the hands of the Libyan people, in the hands of the tribes.
This fact conflicts with the ‘Gaddafi as dictator’ storyline. It seems the journalists from US, UK, France, and Qatar, who were in Tripoli until August, had read the Obama/Clinton script, rather than U.S. Senate committee transcript. All year the foreign press have chosen to ignore the fact that the tribal peoples of Libya – what did Gates say? – “hold the real power in Libya,” and instead used any means to bolster their ‘Gaddafi as dictator’ narrative, and have thus distorted the news that has beamed into our living rooms since February. News that has formed the opinion of millions, deprived them of the truth, and so delayed the groundswell of dissent against NATO’s war on Libya.
And about al Qaeda. Gaddafi had said from the beginning that the rebels were al Qaeda led. Gates and Mullen dismissed that in March, though in vague terms.
It’s become apparent in recent months that Gaddafi was telling the truth again. More camera-shy than the gun-toting rebels, the al Qaeda contingent is nevertheless a huge presence. They are led by Abdel Hakim Belhadj, an al Qaeda affiliate and Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) leader who had “close relationships” and trained with al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The LIFG is still included on both UK and US lists of terrorist organisations. Belhadj is now the NTC’s new official chief military commander.
Rehabilitated in the western press and approved by NATO though Belhadj may be, Secretary Gates and Admiral Mullen got one more thing right. The Libyan people don’t want a bar of anyone associated with al Qaeda leading them in any capacity. Nor do they trust Belhadj’s LIFG background. Libya is 97 per cent Islamic, and though other religions are allowed to practise freely (though not proselytize), one group not tolerated by law in Libya is militant Islamic fundamentalism.
Gates and Mullen’s take on Libya is, well, just not politically correct. Despite the evidence of ‘mission creep’, NATO leaders seem determined to bet against a future Nuremberg-style war crimes action against them, and continue to pound the city of Sirte by night, to ‘break the ground’ for their daytime sniper-fodder ‘relief team.’
During a two day so-called truce in early October the Red Cross tried to enter Sirte to provide humanitarian aid. On the first day they managed to visit a hospital on the southern outskirts, bringing in a few needed supplies, but the hospital came under NTC rebel attack, and they were not able to inspect the whole building let alone get into the city proper and visit other areas.
On the second day the Red Cross tried to take two large aid trucks into the city. But the rebels began firing and so the Red Cross backed up quickly and abandoned their attempt. Preventing access for aid, another war crime. Last Thursday they were finally able to deliver baby milk, diapers, and some other humanitarian aid.
Forever announcing their ‘final’ assault on Sirte, the NTC rebels have not yet quite managed to achieve it. They continue their murderous siege of 135,000 people, maybe more because people fleeing from other towns months ago sought harbour in Sirte, maybe fewer because many have died and thousands fled. Whatever the number, the people of Sirte are defending themselves and their city against NATO’s military force. And so, UN “protection of civilians” continues.
The United Nations community is being tested. On whether member nations have the moral courage to stand up to the powerful NATO nations, point out the illegality of the war on Libya, and insist that their ambassadors take that message to the UN. Meanwhile Gaddafi is proved right yet again, when he observed that the UN does not provide fair treatment for its smaller and less powerful member nations. On this matter, I’d rather he was wrong.
