FUKUS (France-UK-US): Neo-Imperialistic trash

FUKUS (France-UK-US): Neo-Imperialistic trash

FUKUS (France-UK-US): Neo-Imperialistic trash. 49652.jpeg

Why is it that France, from time to time, gets ideas above its station? Why is it that French Presidents, increasingly, start acting like failed Napoleons? Why is it that British Prime Ministers, while acting like war criminals, like to emulate the arch-war criminal, Churchill?

It is common knowledge that Napoleon, that French abomination who failed in his murderous attempt to spread French culture across Europe, liked to write letters to his lover, Josephine, asking her not to wash before they met so that he could smell the stench of her sweat, and…

In plain English, a dirty little… Frenchman. It is also common knowledge that every time a Frenchman gets ideas above his station, Germany teaches him his place. In plain English, French foreign policy is as effective as the Maginot Line. Bluster, bravado, BANG!!

He who turns and runs away, comes back to run another day.

And as regards Churchill, the war criminal of the First World War, hated by London taxi drivers because he was known as a stingy son of a bitch; he sent millions to their deaths in 1914-1918 through utter incompetence (Gallipoli), his speeches were oiled with champagne and brandy, his legacy was the disintegration of the British Empire which he claimed to support. I say…this here is ours, and that there is yours, eh what? Bring me a ruler to draw a nice straight line on a map…

And here we have François Hollande and David Cameron on yet another imperialist venture, this time trying to arm the Syrian terrorists who wish to murder men, women and children, impose Sharia law and kick Russia out of the Mediterranean, in return for greyish promises from Cameron and Hollande and their master across the seas.

And here we have the dynamic duo yet again, after they attempted to destroy the Jamahiriya in Libya, now threatening to “go it alone” after failing to convince their European Union peers to lift the arms embargo and provide the Syrian terrorists with weapons.

True, the Ministries of Defence in the UK and France will crow that they can provide tens of thousands of jobs and so wow, let’s supply Indonesia with hundreds of millions of dollars of military hardware as they slaughter the Maubere population in East Timor. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it happened. It happened and was documented in this column…

François Hollande and David Cameron indeed emulate Napoleon and Churchill, Britain’s version of everyone knows who… and like Napoleon and Churchill they both show a total disrespect for international law. You do not arm, aid and abet terrorists engaged in undermining the government of a sovereign state. It is illegal and it is proscribed as such under international law.

But then again, after Iraq, after Libya, who believes a word Paris and London say? And if they are not war criminals, then who is? But don’t worry, The Hague ICC will never prosecute them… why, they are above the law, aren’t they?

ICC Accomplices To Murder In The Cases Of Saif Al Islam Qadhafi And Abdullah Al Senussi

by Alexandra Valiente Viva Libya!

On December 7 the International Criminal Court Pre-Trial Chamber I comprised of Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi, Presiding Judge, Hans-Peter Kaul and Christine Van den Wyngaert (Judges), requested that the Libyan representatives “provide concrete, tangible and pertinent evidence that proper investigations are currently ongoing.” Libya has until January 23, 2013 to honor this request.

They also asked the representatives to indicate where Saif Gaddafi was presently detained, whether appropriate steps were being taken to arrange for his transfer to Tripoli and whether suitable prison and trial facilities were available. They agreed that Libya’s request to have the OPCD removed as Saif Qadhafi’s legal counsel had merit.

Both the Prosecutor and the OPCD were ordered to submit their response to Libya’s submissions by February 11, 2013. Link

On December 11, the OPCD submitted a request for leave to appeal, asking the Chamber to reconsider their decision because it called into question the court’s impartiality. Saif Qadhafi had expressed his desire to have the OPCD represent him. To remove them now would deny him his right to legal counsel of his choice. It would also offer Libya the opportunity to re-litigate, expelling all the evidence they had submitted during the admissibility hearing.

“The OPCD asserts that “whilst the disposition section of the decision appears to reject the request of the Libyan Government, it is clear [...] that the Chamber granted it in substance, insofar as the Chamber has indicated its intention to revoke the appointment of the OPCD in the admissibility proceedings…the Pre-Trial Chamber has also called into question the status of the submissions of the Defence on behalf of Mr Gaddafi thus far…[b]y revoking the mandate of the OPCD to represent Mr Gaddafi in the admissibility proceedings… the Chamber is effectively penalising the Defence for complying with their duty to vigorously defend the interests of their client in a fully independent manner… [t]o the extent that the Decision could be interpreted to undermine the propriety of all submissions tendered thus far by Mr. Gaddafi’s Defence, it also undermines Mr. Gaddafi’s right to effective representation in these proceedings…the OPCD avers that “the Chamber’s failure to take into consideration the fact that the defendant verbally requested the continued appointment of the OPCD at this juncture of the proceedings constitutes a complete denial of the defendant’s right to be represented by counsel of his choice, as enshrined in article 67(l)(d) of the Statute.” Link

Although the Chamber accuses the OPCD of speculation, the facts are that the ICC have done nothing to alleviate the suffering of prisoners under their jurisdiction and have shirked their responsibility to have Saif Al Islam Qadhafi and Abdullah Al Sennusi transferred to The Hague where they would receive necessary medical attention, have access to family and friends and unrestricted communication with their defense counsel.

The Chamber is aware that the prisoners have been subjected to torture and inhumane treatment. They were informed that Abdullah Al Senussi suffers from a liver disease that will be fatal if untreated. They also know that he has been denied urgent medical attention.

Al Unood Al Senussi wanted to visit her father because she was concerned about the alarming deterioration of his health. She was arrested and detained upon her arrival in Tripoli. Her case clearly demonstrates that the Libyan authorities continue their program of brutal persecution and ideological cleansing, detaining family members of political prisoners who seek information about their loved ones or attempt to obtain legal representation for them.

Witnesses who could testify on behalf of both prisoners can be present in court at The Hague whereas in Libya they risk arrest or assassination.

Neither prisoner would face the death penalty at The Hague and the world would have the opportunity to hear their testimony.

The ICC are obligated to ensure that no irreparable harm comes to Saif Al Islam Qadhafi and Abdullah Al Senussi. The ICC are fully aware that both men would be executed in Libya.

The ICC must honor its obligation to protect prisoners under their jurisdiction and hold the trials for Saif Al Islam Qadhafi and Abdullah Al Senussi at The Hague.

Should they fail in this they will most certainly be accomplices to murder.

The OPCD would be derelict in their duty if they did not challenge the court’s criminality and complicity.

The Full Story Behind the Arrest of ICC Four-member Team in Libya (From Tripoli Post!)

The Full Story Behind the Arrest of ICC Four-member Team in Libya (From Tripoli Post!)

Zintan A team of four people allegedly working for the International Criminal Court (ICC) travels to Zintan city in Libya. The team is allowed by Libyan authorities to meet Seif Gaddafi who is in prison awaiting trial for crimes against humanity. Australian lawyer named Melinda Taylor and her Lebanese interpreter violated the international lawas related to such sensitive issue. (***How many International laws have the Zintan and the whole West  broken for that matter and they have the nerve and Irony to complain? Really?)

Taylor makes a Libyan national security breach and turns out to be a spy for an unknown party. She gets caught red handed, violating the Libyan people’s trust in the ICC and its employees from top down. (***If she was a spy she wouldn’t be that stupid to get caught! come on!! The Libyan national Security are morons!! even at the time of Qaddafi’s regime!!! they couldn’t distinguish a spy if it hit them on the face!!! sorry guys but its true!! I mean the Lady must have wrote I AM A SPY PLEASE CATCH ME! IN NEON LETTERS ON HER HEAD!!!! adding to that the party is unknown really!! give me a break)

According to sources from Zintan, this is the second time that Taylor has visited Seif in prison and it is the second time that they were not comfortable with her behavior both during the visits and before and after those visits.(***what was wrong with her behavior? have you ever wondered maybe she is in Love with Saif al Islam? she is not the only one!!! really behavior! could it be that she was uncomfortable by all the men staring at her like vultures ready to rape her? I am just asking? Have you seen their faces? Or could it be that the soldiers or the National Security people stink because they haven’t showered for months!!!)   She was simply monitored.

During the first visit which took place sometime in April a security breach occurred by the same Australian lawyer. The prison officials and guards took note. They informed the Libyan Attorney General, the National Transitional Council and the Ministry of Justice of what exactly happened.

On their part the Khalid bin Al-Walid brigade which arrested Seif last year and continued to have direct involvement in the security detail took note of what the Australian lawyer had done and made sure that next time they would again closely monitor her movements.

On Thursday 7 June, Taylor was accompanied by three ICC staff as she arrived in Zintan for a second visit with Seif along with all the needed credentials from the international body which allows her to get access to the war criminal. For the second time the security people allowed her to interview him in their presence.

Then Ms. Taylor wanted to meet the war criminal in private and the officials of Khalid bin Al-Walid brigade objected because there was no available female security at that moment to search her before she is allowed to meet the dangerous prisoner alone. (****dangerous prisoner please!!! since when is Saif al Islam dangerous? and since when do the Zentan have female security guards???)

They hesitated and later approved the request with one condition that is an old man should be allowed to sit at a corner of the meeting room and only to observe things from afar.

The ICC team agreed. What the heck. The old man seemed to be totally out of it and thought they could accomplish the mission without him noticing anything. They had probably used the same technique many times before.

As members of the brigade left the room, Taylor made sarcastic comment about the old man sitting at the corner: “no fear from him. He looks as the chair he’s sitting on.”

Taylor then quickly pulled out a three-page letter from under her clothes and deceptively passed it to the prisoner. She also showed him a message in her mobile and passed to him equipments, tiny cameras and sensors that determine the whereabouts of someone or something. The sensors are of the size of pen’s head.

At this point, the prisoner, Seif Gaddafi, took out a letter written in English and another blank paper signed by him and passed them to Taylor.

As this hash hash exchange ended, the old man spoke to them in English and called on the security to intervene. Taylor and the others were struck that the ‘chair’ old man, who turned to be the college instructor sheikh Ahmed Omar al-Zintani, knew English, French and Italian.

When pressed to answer questions, Taylor denied any wrong doing. A female police officer was called in to search the Australian lawyer and her Lebanese interpreter, Helen Assaf, and the secret letters were found on her body.

They had also found a camera on Assaf who is being accused of having falsely portrayed herself as a nurse and of having carried a camera with her into the meeting.

One of the letters came from Mohammed Ismail, the former intelligence officer with Gaddafi regime and the right-hand man to Seif who is now on the run.

Ismail is the same Gaddafi’s intelligence officer who planned to assassinate King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia a few years ago. He spent a number of years in a Saudi prison and later was pardoned by the Saudi king in a brokered deal with the dead brutal dictator.

In the unsigned letter from Seif to the ICC he claimed “there is no government or law in Libya” and that he was being “ill-treated”, he said.

The team was arrested as a result of the new development on Thursday but Ahmed Jehani, Libya’s envoy to the international tribunal, says only two members of the team, Taylor and her Lebanese interpreter, Helen Assaf, are in detention.

He says two men, a Russian and a Spanish national, stayed behind of their own accord.

“Melinda was arrested because she was surprised exchanging papers with the accused Seif al-Islam,” Jehani said, adding that her Lebanese interpreter was being held as an “accomplice”.

“She (Melinda Taylor) had a pen camera and a letter from one of the men most wanted by the Libyan judiciary,” Mohammed Ismail, he added on Sunday.

Jehani said he had seen the letter, which consisted of “drawings” and “symbols”, a “code” that cannot be understood except by the person who sent it and the intended recipient, Seif.

“She is under investigation because she committed a crime. According to Libyan law, it would be spying and communication with the enemy.”
ICC president Judge Sang-Hyun Song said in the tribunal’s statement from The Hague: “We are very concerned about the safety of our staff in the absence of any contact with them.

“These four international civil servants have immunity when on an official ICC mission.

Although the ICC delegation’s visit was authorised by Libya’s chief prosecutor, the complaint was that Taylor had tried to deliver the documents without first declaring them.

But Dr. Mohammed Abdulaziz, the Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs, announced that his government would ask the ICC to waive the lawyer’s immunities so that formal investigations could begin.

“I think the woman will be with us for a while until the waiver is granted by the International Criminal Court so we can formally start the investigations,” Abdulaziz told AFP.

The delegation should have formally declared the documents, he said.
“It is an act that is jeopardising the national security of Libya and we are taking it very seriously,” he added.

SAIF AL-ISLAM HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH “FAILURE TO LICENCE HIS CAMELS”

SAIF AL-ISLAM HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH “FAILURE TO LICENCE HIS CAMELS”

06/Apr/12

Saif al-Islam Qaddafi has been charged with “failure to licence his camels” and “irregularities concerning fish farms by Libyan courts. There is no evidence of any other crime committed by Saif al-Islam.

ICC which is a political tool of the US empire is trying hard to imprison him based on bogus charges with no evidence, for example the charge of “crimes against humanity” etc..

France is also trying hard to imprison Saif al-Islam, because both France and ICC knows that Saif al-Islam is innocent, and if he is only found guilty of “not licencing his camals” then their lies regarding their war of aggression against Libya would come to the open.

How America uses the United Nations to GO to WAR

How America uses the United Nations to GO to WAR

Uploaded by  on Feb 13, 2012

The UN is just a tool of convenience for the United States. It would rather get UN backing when it decides to wage war, as it did against Libya and is trying to against Syria. But if the UN won’t toe the line, then the US will go to war anyway, as it did against Yugoslavia and Iraq.

The UN is fine when it’s doing America’s bidding, but to be ignored or obstructed when it doesn’t. So the US has used its veto 83 times since 1972 to block UN resolutions. More than half of those — 42 – were used to stop the UN condemning Israel for its endless violations of international law, illegal occupation of Palestinian land, colonial expansion of Jewish settlements, and brutal attacks on Gaza.

New York Times interview with Lizzie Phelan

New York Times interview with Lizzie Phelan

Earlier today I was video interviewed over Skype by New York Times journalist Robert Mackey about my coverage of events in Libya and Syria and my criticisms of the mainstream western and GCC media in relation to events in those countries.

This was my first interview by a mainstream western media organisation and I have been told that the video will be published in full tomorrow.

Prior to the interview I was sent three questions outlining the general topics that would be covered in the interview. In some ways the interview veered away from these topics and so here I will publish the questions that were outlined prior to the interview and publish my full answers to them, just because I feel like it is important that full responses are given to these questions in particular, and while I made most of these points in the interview, there are some points that I omitted.

ROBERT MACKEY:    Since your impressions of what is happening in Syria seem to be strikingly different from those of many foreign reporters who have worked there recently, I wanted to ask you about how you found your sources and what you think accounts for the different picture painted of the conflict by other journalists.

LIZZIE PHELAN: First of all I hope that you will give me the opportunity to answer all of your questions in full, so that the context which is always lacking can be provided. I also hope that you will ask all the questions that you proposed when I agreed to do this interview. If not I will myself publish the full questions and my full answers.

This question is flawed, because what you really mean is that my impressions of what is happening in Syria seem to be strikingly different from those reporters from the NATO and GCC countries which have a vested interest in destabilising Syria. Of course my impressions are actually shared by the majority people of this world, from those countries outside of NATO and the GCC and particularly those which are victims of these powers. But because they do not own a powerful media their voices are drowned out by the impressions of the minority reflected in the mainstream media of the NATO and GCC countries.

So in relation to my sources, I find my sources through a number of different means, but my main means is I talk to ordinary people every where I go and in Syria this is not difficult because people are really keen to speak about the crisis in their country, especially to foreigners who they feel strongly have a false impression about their country and current events. This was overwhelmingly, but of course not exclusively, the point of view that I encountered. And this is reflected in my reporting.

In fact, like in Libya, I was so overwhelmed by the volume of people that wanted to talk about their anger at the fabrications in the media of the NATO and GCC countries that my colleague Mostafa Afzalzadeh and I decided to make a documentary so that we could reflect what ordinary Syrian people are really saying. This documentary will actually expose how if it was not for such media the crisis in Syria would have been over before it started and the people of Syria would be living in peace now.

The difference with journalists from mainstream media in NATO and GCC countries is that they come with an agenda, and that agenda is to cover what they call is a “revolution” happening inside Syria and to give substance to the false claims that the Syrian government is a threat to the Syrian people. So if for example they walk down the street and they have 10 people telling them there is no revolution happening in Syria and actually the people want the army to protect them from the terrorists that are flooding the country, and then they have one person who tells them that there is no democracy in Syria, they will discard the 10 as government spies and run with the one person who said something different, I witnessed this myself.

If they were to do the reverse and reflect the majority view on the street, then this would undermine the coverage of their media organisations over the previous 10 months that have painted a picture of a government hated by its people, and in turn it would undermine their own credibility as journalists working for those organisations.

But in time they will not be able to supress the truth. However, like in Libya the danger is that the truth only comes out when it is too late, when a country has been successfully destroyed by the NATO and GCC countries, with the vital help of their media. Then the western media can afford to be more honest, although never entirely, because the aims, for example of regime change, of their paymasters have been achieved.

I on the other hand am not concerned about towing a line in order to “make it” as a journalist working for one of the world’s most respected media organisations, I became a journalist in order to reflect the truth at whatever cost that may come. The only thing I am loyal to is my conscience.

RM:     Since you have appeared on Press TV and Russia Today, as well as Syria state television, do you have any concern that you might seem to be endorsing the governments that finance those channels, or do you see your role more as that of an activist, opposing the policies of the US and UK, than  as a neutral reporter?

LP: This question in itself is a very deceitful and loaded question, and it is taken out of all context. It implies that BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera etc and the journalists who work for those organisations are independent from their financiers. If I worked for BBC does that mean that I am endorsing the British government which funds it and that government’s centuries long and present abuses across the world?

Why is the NYT concerned about my work for Russia Today and Press TV? I challenge you to find me specific examples of journalists that work for these organisations that have engaged in bad journalistic practise. Why are you not concerned about journalists who work for Al Jazeera that is funded by and reflects the foreign policy of the Qatari emir and royal family. Al Jazeera has been proven many times over in the past few months to have published false reports about events in the region, not least Libya.

How can their journalists be neutral when their employer hosts the largest US military base in the region, and has been responsible for sending thousands of fighters, weapons and a lot of money to kill and destroy in Libya and is now doing the same in Syria in addition to having called for Arab troops to invade the country. Likewise, I have yet to hear the NYT question the “neutrality” of journalists who work with the British state funded BBC, or journalists who work for the Murdoch Press which is well documented to have strong connections with all the major western powers which are responsible for the greatest violations of international law.

So the question should start from the premise that no news organisations are neutral, and each represent a certain ideology. So if you ask me if I feel more at peace working for news channels which reflect the ideology of states that are defending themselves from constant attack by the west, that is an ideology that opposes foreign interference in their affairs and promotes their own independence, or would I feel more comfortable working for media organisations that reflect the arrogant ideology that western civilisation is superior and should be imposed across the world by any means necessary, then I think any person with the slightest understanding of global politics and at least recent history would say the former.

An additional deception in this question is that there is such a thing as neutrality and that journalists are able to separate their own beliefs in what they choose to cover and how they cover it, or indeed the pretence that journalists do not hold an opinion.

As I said, I am not concerned about others perceptions of these things, because anyone who perceives that because I have worked for Russia Today or Press TV it means that I am in someone’s pocket, whereas if I was working for a western organisation I would be “neutral,” is deceiving themselves and choosing to look at a tiny portion of a whole picture.

Incidentally, when I was stuck in the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli with those 35 other journalists, one of the days, two American journalists rushed into the hotel and swiftly exited when they realised that the hotel was being defended by Gaddafi supporters. Actually one of the two in particular was worried about the Gaddafi supporters harming him, but they requested that they just leave. Why was he so worried? Because he said he was related to somebody senior in the NTC no less. I have never seen his neutrality being called into question by the mainstream media.

Finally, what is an activist? If it means that the role you play has the effect of agitating events, then I would say that we are all in some shape or form activists. For anyone to think that their actions are benign and have no repercussions, is at best naïve. This is particularly true for all journalists, whose actions as reporters have greater repercussions than other ordinary citizens of this world. And this is of course because their voice is afforded a special platform, and when you study journalism you are taught that a reporter should act as the eyes and ears of the general public, and thus you have greater influence than the ordinary citizen.

So you either use that platform to promote justice and the principles of international law which are fundamental for everyone’s well being, or you bury your head in the sand about the responsibility that comes with that platform and you use it to promote your own personal career or interests.

RM:     I also wanted to find out more about your reporting from Libya, and ask how you respond to allegations that you supported the government of Col. Qaddafi?  All in all, I’m trying to get a better understanding of what drives you to speak out against Western governments but apparently lend your support to governments, like those in Iran, Russia and Syria now, that have been accused of serious human rights abuses.

LP: Again this is another deceitful question and epitomises the manipulative approach of the world’s powerful media, such as newspapers like the NYT.

Here you are asking me this question because the west’s major powers and media criminalised Muammar Gaddafi, Iran etc by accusing them of abusing human rights.

So you are trying to put me into this trap by saying that if I support Muammar Gaddafi, and Iran I also support abuses against human rights.

But first of all this question of human rights is an absolute fallacy and is at present the number one stick used to bash leaders of independent developing countries in order to provide a moral justification for the imposition of the western system upon those countries.

My colleague Dan Glazebrook did an interview on Russia Today last week following the decision by Doctors Without Borders to stop their work in Libya in despair at the appalling torture against tens of thousands of pro-Gaddafi Libyans by those rebels who have been cheered on for the past year by the western media. He reminded the public that according to HRW reports from the past 5 years, there were three possible cases of deaths in custody in Libya over 5 years, which is really exemplary, but in Britain there were 4 cases last month alone. So I would be far more concerned about being associated with the British government and thus its appalling human rights record. And that is just Britain – the rest of the NATO countries, particularly the US and also Israel and the GCC countries fare no better.

Factually speaking Libya was a paradise for human rights and Muammar Gaddafi was due to receive a human rights award prior to the NATO onslaught. And of course Libya had the highest standard of living in Africa and much of the region, including a much higher standard of living than Saudi Arabia which hardly ever is in the spotlight in the mainstream western press.

Nonetheless, you wouldn’t dream of implying that a journalist who works for the Sun or the Guardian in Britain, both of which take a position of supporting one way or another the Conservative party or the Labour Party, of supporting abuses on human rights because they work for papers which support parties that have committed some of the greatest injustices known to man throughout history all across the world and up until this present day. Injustices which far outstrip any injustices that have occurred at the hands of any leader of a developing country.

So why the two-faces? This is all part of the prejudice in western media that western civilisation is superior to anything else and therefore those responsible for the injustices committed by the west need not be held accountable, and anyone who speaks out against that should have their name dragged through the mud.

Malcolm X famously said “if you are not careful, the media will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the oppressor”, and that quote rings true more than ever today most recently in the way that the western and GCC media has covered events in Libya and Syria.

But to respond to your question directly, as I have stated, what I support is respect for international law, and the most important principle in international law, and one of the main stated aims for the body that was set up to uphold international law, the now redundant UN, is respect for the sovereignty of nations and non-interference in the internal affairs of states. Recent history shows that the root of the greatest injustices known to man is the violation of these principles and so anyone who violates these principles is a criminal and should be treated as such, and anyone who is a victim of such violations should be defended.

Now not only these principles, but all relevant international laws and norms were violated in the case of Libya and the west’s treatment of Muammar Gaddafi, and this has been well documented. The same violations are playing out against the Syrian government.

How is it that one can moralise about human rights, but not give a second’s thought to the fact that a senior member of the US government, Hilary Clinton called for the death of another head of state, Muammar Gaddafi, just two days before he was assassinated. I hope I don’t need to tell you that that was entirely illegal and abhorrent.

I am wholly against such violations, just as anybody who believes in international law and justice would be, and therefore I will support the right of anyone to defend themselves against this violation by any means necessary.

I have been accused by some of being a mouthpiece for the Libyan government but now the truth is coming out, we know that the essence of the former Libyan government’s analysis has been proved correct, whilst almost everything reported by the mainstream Western media has been proved wrong:

- The rebellion WAS indeed armed from the very first day of the uprising (this was confirmed in Amnesty’s in-depth report from late last year) – not a peaceful movement

- The rebels WERE working hand in glove with Western intelligence agencies to facilitate a NATO blitzkrieg

- The NTC ARE disunited and incapable of governing the country.

- The rebels DO have a racist, even genocidal, policy towards sub-Saharan African migrants and the third of the Libyan population is dark skinned

- Gaddafi’s government WERE NOT conducting aerial attacks against protesters or mass rape (or indeed ANY rape, according to Amnesty)

- There HAD NOT been 10,000 people killed in Benghazi by Gaddafi’s government during the uprising (as the NTC claimed), but 110 (Amnesty figures again) killed on both sides prior to NATO’s attack

On every major issue, the Gaddafi government’s analysis and figures have been proven far far closer to the truth than the NTC’s and the western media’s initial and unequivocal position. So ANY journalist telling the truth about these issues would have “sounded like a mouthpiece of the regime”, because the government’s analysis was essentially correct, and has now been proven correct.

NATO’s Depraved Disregard for Libyan Civilian Casualties

NATO’s Depraved Disregard for Libyan Civilian Casualties

By Glen Ford

December 21, 2011 “BAR‘ –  After leaving the door open to the United States and its European allies to destroy Libya from the air for seven brutal months, Russia is now pressing for an investigation of civilian casualties inflicted by NATO. The Russians, along with the Chinese, abstained from voting on the infamous United Nations Security Council resolution establishing a “no-fly” zone over Libya, ostensibly to protect civilians, a legal fig leaf that NATO interpreted as a go-ahead to batter Libya with 7,700 bombs and missiles. Incredibly, NATO’s secretary general proclaimed in November that no civilian casualties had resulted – that is, no confirmed civilian casualties. NATO made sure there could be no confirmation of civilian killings through its own classic Catch-22 policy: Only those civilians that NATO, itself, confirmed were dead could be listed as killed, and NATO’s firm policy was never to investigate civilian casualties. Thus, the civilian death toll was guaranteed to be zero.

The Russian envoy to the UN describes NATO’s claims as “pure propaganda” – but it’s much worse than that. NATO carried out a plan designed for no other purpose than to hide the killing of civilians, to methodically suppress all evidence of war crimes. And that is certainly not only clear evidence of intent to commit war crimes, but is also, itself, a violation of the rules of warthat is, a separate war crime. International law requires that combatants take care to minimize civilian casualties. NATO’s policy of refusing to investigate civilian deaths is evidence on its face of a depraved disregard for civilian lives and the intention to avoid prosecution for crimes against civilians.

By the standards of international law, the entire NATO chain of command, civilian and military, should face trial for war crimes. That means, the military and civilian authorities of France, Britain, the United States, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Canada, plus their Persian Gulf allies Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, who joined in the criminal enterprise. And yes, that means U.S. commander-in-chief Barack Obama, who ghoulishly “led from behind” by flying about one-fifth of the missions and providing most of the bombs and missiles and logistical support.

By the standards of international law, the entire NATO chain of command, civilian and military, should face trial for war crimes.”

The New York Times claims its own investigation has uncovered between 40 and 70 civilian victims of NATO, a ludicrously low number in an air offensive that struck scores of Libyan cities and villages, in a war that NATO’s Libyan allies claim killed 40,000 people.

The Times and its western corporate media colleagues have no moral authority in this matter, having acted as megaphones and virtual agents of NATO’s massive psychological warfare operation against the Libyan government.

They reported fictitious tales of massive rapes by Libyan soldiers as fact, and fanned the flames of race war by spreading the lie that the Libyan regime was protected by legions of black African mercenaries.

Thousands of black Libyan citizens and African migrant workers are dead at least partially as a result of western media lies.

Nowhere in the New York Times puny list of civilian dead do the names of Moammar Gaddafi’s youngest son and three grandchildren appear. They were killed in the last days of April by NATO bombs that struck Gaddafi’s home – four civilians killed in an assassination attempt that was, itself, illegal under U.S. and international law. The New York Times was not upset, then. They remain accomplices in the same crimes they purport to investigate.

NATO’s Libya campaign targeted in Russian human rights report

by Nathan Toohey at 28/12/2011 18:58

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has released its first report into the state of human rights in countries abroad, taking particular umbrage with NATO’s bombing campaign in Libya.

“We are looking forward to a constructive response,” Interfax quoted Konstantin Dolgov, the Foreign Ministry’s human rights commissioner, as saying at a press conference held in conjunction of the report’s release on Wednesday. “There are no fabrications in the report,” he said. “There are no invented circumstances, factors.”

 Targeting Gaddafi

Particularly strong words were saved for the conflict in Libya. The report stated that there had been massive human rights violations committed by both sides. NATO leadership had set itself a main task of the physical destruction of Libya’s former leader, Muammar Gaddafi, the report said.

“By implementing the concept of ‘collective security,’ NATO members, in fact, set a main goal of the overthrow and murder of the colonel (some sources suggest that the order to eliminate Gaddafi was given to units of the armed forces of the USA, France and UK),” the report stated.
The report stressed the need to investigate the murder of the former Libyan leader.

 Bombing campaign

According to the document, a bid was made to provoke discontent among the population by destroying normal living conditions in the territories under the control of Gaddafi.

“According to various sources, intense bombardment in the early days of the campaign (and even before the transition to NATO command) led to civilian casualties:

  • between 64 and 90 civilians were killed,

  • including 40 people in Tripoliand 150 wounded.

  • On May 13, in Brega 13 were killed

  • and 50 imams were wounded, who were participated in a collective prayer.

  • During the bombing of Tripoli on June 19, nine people were killed, in just one day,

  • on June 20, NATO strikes killed 15 people, including three children,”

  • the document said. The report goes on to cite other cases of the alleged deaths of civilians due to the actions of the alliance.

Israeli campaign to attract UK tourists wipes Palestine and Syria off the map

Israeli campaign to attract UK tourists wipes Palestine and Syria off the map

By Asa Winstanley – The Electronic Intifada – 12/04/2011
Detail of an Israeli map appearing in the Guardian last weekend (full view)

An Israeli tourism map appearing in the Guardian last weekend rendered occupied Palestinian and Syrian territories as part of “Israel”.

The map very much appears to be in breach of UK advertising regulations. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in 2009 upheld complaints against an Israeli tourism bilboard because it included a similar map, ruling the ad “must not appear again in its current form”.

The three-page advertising spread from the Israeli tourism ministry in the Guardian Weekend is part of what increasingly looks like a major new advertising campaign in the UK.

On the map, the occupied West Bank is labeled “Judea” and “Samaria” (names from religious texts used by Israeli colonists). The West Bank, Gaza Strip and Golan Heights are delineated only by a faint dotted line. Under international law, all three are occupied territories. The West Bank and Gaza are Palestinian, and the Golan is part of Syria. All three were invaded by Israel in 1967.

“Systems breakdown” at the Guardian

On Monday the Guardian issued a correction stating the ad “did not distinguish clearly between Israel” and the occupied Arab territories. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign is encouraging people to complain to the ASA and the Guardian. The *Guardian *has written to a PSC supporter apologizing, saying they usually “carefully check any potentially controversial adverts prior to publication, however in this instance we had a systems breakdown and did not do so”. The Guardian also said the ASA is currently investigating the ad. Major campaign The ad is part of what seems to be a major recent campaign in the UK. Large billboards have appeared in public spaces encouraging people to “Think Israel”. The website to this campaign contains an even more offensive (and racist) map [PDF]. The West Bank appears even more solidly absorbed into “Israel proper” (without even a dotted line), with mysteriously empty pink and yellow blobs appearing where Palestinians live in built-up areas. There is no clue that the Golan is anything more than a part of “northern Israel”. The website’s home page also offers links to “Christian themes” and “Jewish themes” but no “Muslim themes”, wiping the Islamic heritage of Palestine off the map. Israeli tourism ministry contempt for ASA To what extent this is part of the “Brand Israel” strategy is debatable. Whatever the case, the ASA should be asked what action it will take against the Israeli tourist board for continuing to violate its rules. The campaign has also appeared in brochures distributed on British Airways flights, as discovered by The Electronic Intifada in October. Last month the ASA also ruled against an ad in the Zionist-slanted Jewish Chronicle that it said was “misleading and so “must not appear again in its current form”, because it had advertised an illegal West Bank colony as part of “Israel”.

We have been reporting actual troops and commanders in Libyan soils, excluding special ops for some time. The US propaganda outlets fully hid the fact that NATO troops were on the ground because it was against International laws, as if they give a damn about International laws.

Now the same propaganda outlets are starting war of words against Syria, to help these troops entering Syria without public attention.
