Reminder to the World: The Dysfunction of the UN, explained by Gaddafi

Reminder to the World: The Dysfunction of the UN, explained by Gaddafi

Muammar Qaddafi’s historic speech to the heads of state of the world at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2009. As a result of this speech, the globalist elite which controls most governments and banks in the world, decided they must get rid of this truthful leader.

Below is a short summary of the transcript of Muammar Qadhafi‘s September 2009 speech to the United Nations General Assembly:

“In the name of the African Union, I would like to greet the members of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and I hope that this meeting will be among the most historic in the history of the world.

In the name of the General Assembly at its sixtyfourth session, presided over by Libya, of the African Union, of one thousand traditional African kingdoms and in my own name, I would like to take this opportunity, as President of the African Union, to congratulate our son Obama because he is attending the General Assembly, and we welcome him as his country is hosting this meeting.

This session is taking place in the midst of so many challenges facing us, and the whole world should come together and unite its efforts to defeat the challenges that are our principal common enemy — those of climate change and international crises such as the capitalist economic decline, the food and water crises, desertification, terrorism, immigration, piracy, man-made and natural epidemics and nuclear proliferation. Perhaps influenza H1N1 was a virus created in a laboratory that got out of control, originally being meant as a military weapon. Such challenges also include hypocrisy, poverty, fear, materialism and immorality.

As is known, the United Nations was founded by three or four countries against Germany at the time. The United Nations was formed by the nations that joined together against Germany in the Second World War. Those countries formed a body called the Security Council, made its own countries permanent members and granted them the power of veto.

We were not present at that time. The United Nations was shaped in line with those three countries and wanted us to step into shoes originally designed against Germany. That is the real substance of the United Nations when it was founded over 60 years ago.

That happened in the absence of some 165 countries, at a ratio of one to eight; that is, one was present and eight were absent. They created the Charter, of which I have a copy. If one reads the Charter of the United Nations, one finds that the Preamble of the Charter differs from its Articles. How did it come into existence? All those who attended the San Francisco Conference in 1945 participated in creating the Preamble, but they left the Articles and internal rules of procedures of the so-called Security Council to experts, specialists and interested countries, which were those countries that had established the Security Council and had united against Germany.

The Preamble is very appealing, and no one objects to it, but all the provisions that follow it completely contradict the Preamble. We reject such provisions, and we will never uphold them; they ended with the Second World War. The Preamble says that all nations, small or large, are equal. Are we equal when it comes to the permanent seats? No, we are not equal.

The Preamble states in writing that all nations are equal whether they are small or large. Do we have the right of veto? Are we equal? The Preamble says that we have equal rights, whether we are large or small.

That is what is stated and what we agreed in the Preamble. So the veto contradicts the Charter. The permanent seats contradict the Charter. We neither accept nor recognize the veto.

The Preamble of the Charter states that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest. That is the Preamble that we agreed to and signed, and we joined the United Nations because we wanted the Charter to reflect that. It says that armed force shall only be used in the common interest of all nations, but what has happened since then? Sixty-five wars have broken out since the establishment of the United Nations and the Security Council — 65 since their creation, with millions more victims than in the Second World War. Are those wars, and the aggression and force that were used in those 65 wars, in the common interest of us all? No, they were in the interest of one or three or four countries, but not of all nations.

We will talk about whether those wars were in the interest of one country or of all nations. That flagrantly contradicts the Charter of the United Nations that we signed, and unless we act in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations to which we agreed, we will reject it and not be afraid not to speak diplomatically to anyone. Now we are talking about the future of the United Nations. There should be no hypocrisy or diplomacy because it concerns the important and vital issue of the future of the world. It was hypocrisy that brought about the 65 wars since the establishment of the United Nations.

The Preamble also states that if armed force is used, it must be a United Nations force — thus, military intervention by the United Nations, with the joint agreement of the United Nations, not one or two or three countries using armed force. The entire United Nations will decide to go to war to maintain international peace and security. Since the establishment of the United Nations in 1945, if there is an act of aggression by one country against another, the entire United Nations should deter and stop that act.

If a country, Libya for instance, were to exhibit aggression against France, then the entire Organization would respond because France is a sovereign State Member of the United Nations and we all share the collective responsibility to protect the sovereignty of all nations. However, 65 aggressive wars have taken place without any United Nations action to prevent them. Eight other massive, fierce wars, whose victims number some 2 million, have been waged by Member States that enjoy veto powers. Those countries that would have us believe they seek to maintain the sovereignty and independence of peoples actually use aggressive force against peoples. While we would like to believe that these countries want to work for peace and security in the world and protect peoples, they have instead resorted to aggressive wars and hostile behaviour. Enjoying the veto they granted themselves as permanent members of the Security Council, they have initiated wars that have claimed millions of victims.

The principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of States is enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. No country, therefore, has the right to interfere in the affairs of any Government, be it democratic or dictatorial, socialist or capitalist, reactionary or progressive. This is the responsibility of each society; it is an internal matter for the people of the country concerned. The senators of Rome once appointed their leader, Julius Caesar, as dictator because it was good for Rome at that time. No one can say of Rome at that time that it gave Caesar the veto.

The veto is not mentioned in the Charter.

We joined the United Nations because we thought we were equals, only to find that one country can object to all the decisions we make. Who gave the permanent members their status in the Security Council? Four of them granted this status to themselves. The only country that we in this Assembly elected to permanent member status in the Security Council is China. This was done democratically, but the other seats were imposed upon us undemocratically through a dictatorial procedure carried out against our will, and we should not accept it.”

CIA recruits 1,500 from Mazar-e-Sharif to fight in Libya

CIA recruits 1,500 from Mazar-e-Sharif to fight in Libya

By: Azhar Masood | Published: August 31, 2011

ISLAMABAD – The Central Intelligence Agency of the United States recruited over 1,500 men from Mazar-e-Sharif for fighting against the Qaddafi forces in Libya.

Sources told TheNation: “Most of the men have been recruited from Afghanistan. They are Uzbeks, Persians and Hazaras. According to the footage, these men attired in Uzbek-style of shalwar and Hazara-Uzbek Kurta were found fighting in Libyan cities.”

When Al-Jazeera reporter pointed it he was disallowed by the ‘rebels ‘to capture images.
Sources in Quetta said: “Some Uzbeks and Hazaras from Afghanistan were arrested in Balochistan for illegally traveling into Pakistan en route to Libya through Iran. Aljazeera’s report gave credence to this story. More than 60 Afghans, mainly children and teenagers, have been found dead after suffocating inside a shipping container in southwestern Pakistan in an apparent human smuggling attempt.
More than 100 illegal immigrants were discovered 20km from the border town of Quetta last week inside the container, which had been locked from the outside.
Aljazeera having dubious record gave human touch to this story as most of the men who intruded inside Pakistan from Afghanistan were recruits for Libyan Rebels’ Force.

The sources said: “The CIA funded Libyan Rebels with cash and weapons.” In a report the New York Mayor’s TV Channel Bloomberg said, “Leaders of the Libyan rebels’ Transitional National Council flew to Istanbul seeking legitimacy and money. They will leave with the official recognition of the US and 31 other nations. As for the cash, they will have to wait.
The decision to treat the council as the “legitimate governing authority” in Libya is a key step to freeing up some of the government’s frozen assets for rebels seeking the ouster of Muammar Qaddafi. Still, obstacles such as existing United Nations sanctions won’t disappear overnight.
“We still have to work through various legal issues, but we expect this recognition will allow the TNC to access various forms of funding,” said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

At stake are about $34 billion in frozen Libyan government assets that are held by the US institutions and as much as $130 billion more held around the world.

Speaking via phone from Istanbul, Transitional National Council spokesman Mahmoud Shammam put the total in excess of $100 billion globally.
Qaddafi, in an audio message broadcast to supporters in the town of Zlitan, said the Libyan people “will never give up” in the fight to prevent him being ousted, the Associated Press reported. “The Libyan people will persevere,” he said.

In the coming weeks, the US officials will consult with the TNC and international partners on the most effective and appropriate method of making additional significant financial assistance available, according to a Treasury official who was not authorised to discuss the matter publicly.

Shammam said the TNC needs $3 billion to cover the budget for six months. The council is seeking loans secured by the Qaddafi regime’s assets abroad as a means of funding, he said.

Recognition may lawfully allow nations to buy state-owned oil from the TNC, which controls the oil-rich eastern part of the country. Italy’s Eni SpA and France’s Total SA are the top oil companies operating in Libya, a former Italian colony.
How much money the Benghazi-based government can get, and when, may be more tied to politics than the law.

“The legal issues are in the eye of the beholder,” said Gary Clyde Hufbauer, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. “If Obama and Clinton want to go slow in paying out the money, their lawyers can invent plenty of legal issues to justify the chosen pace.”

The US envisions a “short timeframe” for releasing some of the Libyan government assets frozen by the US, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said.
President Barack Obama signed an order on February 25 freezing any US assets of Muammar Qaddafi, his family and members of his regime in Libya. As a practical matter, most of the frozen $34 billion is tied up in complicated property interests, including ownership interests in non-publicly traded companies or real estate, according to the Treasury official.
The mechanics of how the US will unfreeze assets still has to be worked out. The United Nations sanctions against Libya remain in place, a hindrance to efforts to get money to the rebels.
The UK and France, which led the campaign to unseat Qaddafi, yesterday didn’t commit any financial contributions.

Recognition of the council “will allow some countries to unfreeze some money,” French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said. Libyan frozen assets in France total $250 million, he said.

Other nations have already found the means to act.
Italy will open a credit line to rebels using frozen assets as collateral, and will provide them with 100 million euros ($141 million), Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said yesterday. Another 300 million euros will be released in two weeks and in total, Italy will release 400 million euros, he said, describing the money as loans.

The council is expecting $100 million from Turkey within three days, Shammam said.

The main criterion for international law for the recognition of a rebel group as the government of a state is its effective control over the territory.

The recognition of the TNC, given the fact that Qaddafi still controls Tripoli, could “arguably constitute an illegal interference in internal affairs,” Stefan Talmon, a professor of International Law at the University of Oxford, wrote in a paper for the American Society of International Law.

A number of actions by the rebels convinced the US to offer recognition, including a commitment to pursue a reform process, and to seek more inclusive representation of Libyans, politically, geographically and tribally,” according to a State Department officially.

The US will continue to watch closely how they perform, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The contact group laid out conditions for a “genuine ceasefire” in a final statement and declared that “Qaddafi and certain of his family members must go.”
The way he will leave power has yet to be defined, the group said. The ceasefire conditions call for complete withdrawal of Qaddafi-led forces to their bases, the release of detainees and hostages, provision of water and electricity to all regions, and the opening of all borders for the quick return of refugees.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization started air strikes in late March to protect civilians, an intervention that aided rebels seeking Qaddafi’s ouster. Qaddafi has already lasted longer than allies had anticipated, though his hold on the capital, Tripoli, appears to be weakening amid shortages of food and fuel. There are reports that his government is seeking a political solution to end the fighting.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will be the only person authorized by the contact group to negotiate with both sides in Libya. Ban will set up a board of two to three interlocutors from Tripoli and the rebel-held town of Benghazi, Frattini said.

The military campaign against Qaddafi will continue “indefinitely” until he steps down, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague told reporters yesterday in Istanbul.

Unseen face of the Libyan conflict

Unseen face of the Libyan conflict

Colin Todhunter

Peel back the veneer of ‘objectivity’, and the media’s record on the Libyan conflict is laid bare. There are lies, more lies and then there is the media. Take the BBC, for instance.

As Britain’s national state broadcaster, it is duty bound to provide impartial news coverage — after all, it is the ordinary person who funds it. However, the question to be asked is why folk should pay for a ‘service’ that consistently misleads in order to secure compliance for state-corporate policies?

The reporting on events in Libya has been disgracefully one-sided by most of the mainstream media in Britain. This comes as no surprise, though, given the pious narrative the media puts forward at the best of times, which implies the British government and Nato are essentially civilising forces in a barbaric world.

Picture a different world for a moment, one in which the African Union (AU) had intervened in British affairs on the back of the recent riots, in order to ‘protect’ rioters and then ‘liberate’ them from an oppressive regime. With a bit of arm twisting, it managed to get a UN resolution to implement a no fly zone over Britain.

The AU media then embed themselves with the British ‘rebels’, who had been illegally armed with weapons from AU countries, or its allies elsewhere, in order to overthrow the corrupt Cameron regime. The media report the conflict from the rioters-cum-rebels’ point of view, fail to seriously question the legitimacy of the conflict — indeed, tacitly support it — and jump on every utterance from British PM David Cameron with sneering contempt to portray him as an irrational maniac. As Cameron and his cronies flee for their lives, AU countries’ TV channels show images from inside his home and those of his millionaire government associates to highlight the opulent lifestyles they indulged in. The message is implied that all such riches were robbed from the ordinary people of Britain by Cameron and his ilk through the system they presided over.

Finally, as a no-fly zone policy morphs into a killing campaign from the air, the deaths caused are largely underreported or downplayed. Hypocritical media Substitute Nato for the AU, Gadhafi for Cameron and Libya for Britain, and you get the picture concerning the hypocrisy the mainstream media in Britain has indulged in. It is a media that portrayed those involved in the recent riots in a wholly negative light, and a media which glorifies the unjust opulence and the corporate tyranny that has wrecked the economy.

Yet, when it suits, members of the mainstream media all too readily trip over themselves to praise violent uprisings and rant against perceived injustice, tyranny and leaders who live in opulence.

Peel back the veneer of ‘objectivity’, and the media’s record on the Libyan conflict is laid bare.

How many times have broadcasters failed to focus on where Libyan rebels were getting their arms from in the face of a UN sanctioned arms embargo on Libya?

How many times have broadcasters questioned Nato’s ‘moral right’ to attack Libya, especially given the West’s role in Afghanistan and Iraq and its long history of interventions and support for unscrupulous regimes over the decades?

And how many times did broadcasters question mission drift, whereby a path for Libyan rebels into the heart of Tripoli was blasted from the air, courtesy of a massive Nato bombing campaign?

A compliant, toothless media too often rolled over, peddled the notion of a widespread popular uprising and tended to focus merely on the processes of intervention. After the Nato backed rebels took Tripoli, concerns arose over the fate of reporters Mahdi Nazemroaya and Thierry Meyssan and also British independent journalist Lizzie Phelan, whose blog and Twitter account were suddenly deleted. Her reports for Press TV were stridently anti-Nato. Anxiety over her whereabouts was expressed amid reports of her and the other journalists mentioned having received death threats and attempts by Nato to silence dissent.

The mainstream media could do a lot worse by focussing on a news item that has largely (if not completely) gone unnoticed, that of the 200 prominent African figures who have accused western nations and the International Criminal Court of “subverting international law” in Libya.

The UN has been misused to militarise policy, legalise military action and effect regime change, according to University of Johannesburg professor Chris Landsberg.

He says it is unprecedented for the UN to have outsourced military action to Nato in this way and challenges the International Criminal Court to investigate Nato for “violating international law.” In the absence of dissenting voices, or just plain decent journalism, many ordinary people rely on sources for their ‘news’, which, apart from a brief allusion to oil now and then, have forwarded the notion that Nato’s involvement in Libya has been perfectly legitimate because it’s all been about removing a crazy man from power who was oppressing his own people.

The portrayal of the Libyan conflict has been a damning indictment of a self congratulatory media that continually backs slaps itself on for being ‘impartial’ and ‘free’.

It’s been damning indictment of British ‘democracy’ too.

Mohanned Magam, Murdered by NATO’s terrorists in Libya

Mohanned Magam, Murdered by NATO’s terrorists in Libya

29.08.2011

Mohanned Magam, Murdered by NATO's terrorists in Libya. 45250.jpeg

Mohanned Magam was 23 years old, a young Libyan anti-war activist proudly supporting his beloved Jamahiriya against the marauding gangs of terrorists and thugs unleashed by NATO against his Government, against his people, against Libya and ultimately, against Africa. His crime? None. But then again NATO’s terrorists do not need a pretext to murder.

This is one of the last messages sent by Mohanned to Mathaba, an independent news agency:

My name is Mohanned Magam, i’m from Libya. I was given your contact by a friend who says you are a friend of the Libyan people. We are making this appeal because we are suffering great hardships because of the daily bombing of our cities and the blockade of Libya by NATO forces. Too many civilians have already been killed, men women and children by NATO which is making our life harder with each passing day. So we are making this appeal to you to help us organise an event to raise public awareness about our suffering with a march around the world’s capitals against the aggression on Libya and to defend our unique Direct People Democracy in Libya. Please help us because we are dying day by day here. We ask Mathaba if it is possible to be involved in organizing this march and to let as many people as possible to know about this event. We would really appreciate your kind help and God willing we can help to stop this war in Libya.

Thank you very much.
Best Regards
Mohanned Magam

It is polite, it is polished, it is non-violent. He does not call for the blood-letting or “slitting the throats” of Negroes, like NATO’s terrorists do, he does not call for the implementation of Sharia law, like NATO’s terrorists do, he does call for committing gang-rapes on defenceless women, like NATO’s terrorists do, he does not ask for children to be impaled on stakes, like NATO’s terrorists do. He calls for a political awareness campaign for the truth to be told.

Mohanned died this weekend for the truth. This truth NATO and its terrorists have tried to suppress from the beginning. And for Mohanned’s sake, let us tell the truth again loud and clear for all to hear.

The entire Libya campaign was based upon a false flag event when the NATO-backed Benghazi terrorists torched buildings, slaughtered people in the streets, ran amok and then staged a “massacre” by firing into a crowd (including Gaddafi supporters) and then blaming the “massacre” on Colonel Gaddafi. NATO’s military and media wings swung into action with a massive Saddam WMD-style campaign of lies, as the UK entered its sixth war under five Prime Ministers, Sarkozy looked for a slice of Libya’s oil and who else, the USA was ready behind the scenes, using NATO “to save the US taxpayer money and to save the lives of American boys”.

The fact that the clique of NATO countries dismissed offers for peace several times, the fact that they dismissed an offer of a free and fair democratic election shows they were not on the side of peace and they were not on the side of freedom and democracy. They were on the side of lining their own pockets with Libya’s oil, which was patently obvious recently with their meeting to divide up the spoils.

Militarily, the “rebels” or “terrorists” or whatever they call themselves, are a joke because without NATO’s air power, they were winning absolutely nothing. Indeed, they were more famous for how fast they could flee than how well they could fight. Let them take no credit from this at all.

As for NATO, it entered this conflict under the rules of engagement and under the international law covering the case, namely the UN Charter, the UNSC Resolutions 1970 and 1973 (2011) and the Geneva Conventions on war crimes. The fact that due to the heroic resistance of the Libyan Armed Forces and the People of Libya, like Mohanned, who stood up to the barbarous assault by NATO from the air and the obscene atrocities of its terrorists on land for six long months and were so successful that NATO had to resort to breaking all the laws mentioned above (court cases pending), says it all.

Message from a group of special persons who loved Mohanned

My dear brother Mohanned Magam the martyr has passed away today in Abou Salleem’s bombing – Mohanned worked for Libya as a volunteer day and night to get Libya’s safety back, he worked with journalists and helped in preparation for the million man match in Tripoli, he was so happy that day. May Allah rest him in peace. We love you my brother, we are proud of you our hero.

(Message passed to me by his dear friend Ksenija)

Today, a group of young people of all nationalities from a great number of countries, people who tried to help Mohanned, are crying tears of sadness for his passing on and they are shedding tears of desperation because NATO and its terrorists have just taught us, clear for all to see, that the people of the world are facing an Axis of sheer, pure and unadulterated evil.

Mohanned is not today with us, he is in a far better place. For the good people of the world, it becomes obvious that we must take a stand in the name of good over evil, fighting for God against Satan, for the Satanic forces have already been unleashed on the streets of Libya by their Lord, NATO.

Killing the Truth: Western Mainstream Media Complicit in NATO War Crimes in Libya

Killing the Truth: Western Mainstream Media Complicit in NATO War Crimes in Libya

by Finian Cunningham
Global Research, August 24, 2011

Libya represents a new low in Western government war crimes – which is something of a disturbing record given the decades of war criminality by these governments.

In Libya, not only is there the criminal military assault on a sovereign country, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the murder of women and children, and all the violation of international law that that entails – we now have the complete lobotomisation of language and normal meaning of words.

And in these crimes against law, humanity and morality, the Western mainstream media have played a disgraceful, vital role.

Over the past five months, as US, British, French and other NATO warplanes pounded Libya with 8,000 strike sorties involving extensive bombing raids, the world has in truth witnessed a concerted campaign of outright war crimes to bring down the government of Muammar Gaddafi. Thousands of civilians have been murdered in this blitzkrieg, which, it will be recalled, was orchestrated through the United Nations as an intervention to “protect civilians”.

Whatever the grievances against Gaddafi may have been they cannot be compared with the destruction and slaughter that the NATO powers have inflicted.

How could such deformation of international law be achieved and made to appear normal, acceptable? It is in large part because the Western powers have deformed the normal meaning of language to go along with their criminal actions. This is propaganda taken to a new level where reasonable criticism is rendered nearly impossible because the framework of words has become unintelligible and therefore hardly answerable.

In previous imperialist interventions, for example Afghanistan and Iraq, Western powers at least used the word “war” to go along with their self-serving actions. In former Yugoslavia and Somalia, we at least heard the term “humanitarian war“. Before that, we were told of Cold War, “war on communists, “war on drugs”. Notwithstanding that these “wars” were but deceptive covers for imperialist control of resources.

However, in the case of Libya, the word “war” has been dropped altogether from all discourse about Western intervention. It’s called a “responsibility to protect civilians lives”. This disarticulated language and meaning is repeated even though the factual truth of what is happening is an exact conformation to the word “war”. And not only “war” but “criminal war”. The murder of civilians by NATO warplanes is a war crime in the normal framework of fact, truth, reality, law and morality. But in the abnormal, hideous framework of Western imperialist propaganda it is called “protecting civilians” and “supporting democracy”.

“This is war in all but name,” notes Michel Chossudovsky. “These are war crimes in all but name. And the Western mainstream media are complicit in these war crimes. The Western media have made absurdities acceptable through their non-reporting and distortion of crimes by NATO powers. If people can be made to believe absurdities, then they can be made to accept atrocities.”

Libya can be seen as the pinnacle of Orwellian function – meaning the nadir in normal reasoning. In its relentless one-eyed coverage of Libya, the Western media has served as the ministry of disinformation for NATO.

For five months, the bombardment of Libya has been presented in the mainstream media as “responsibility to protect civilians”. The fact that NATO has gone well beyond even the fake terms of its UN mandate to act as an air force to pave the way for a minor insurrection is not reported; the fact of civilian deaths caused by NATO warplanes is not reported; the fact that NATO special forces have led insurgents on the ground has not been reported; the fact that the Western governments have collaborated with the despotic Arab regimes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to dismantle a sovereign government and gain control of its huge oil reserves has not been reported

All the while, the Western mainstream media have collaborated with NATO powers to lobotomise truth, reality and normal language to conceal war crimes – the latest episode now being the “triumph in Tripoli”.

By contrast, Global Research correspondent Mahdi Nazemroaya and Voltaire network Thierry Meyssan have endeavoured to report the facts and the truth of NATO’s war on Libya. They have backed up their reportage with video footage of the aftermath of bombing raids in which civilians have been targeted and killed. As Nazemroaya said recently: “This has been a campaign of terror by NATO.”

Yet, ludicrously, the Western media describe the latest [NATO-led] marauding of Tripoli by anti-Gaddafi insurgents as “a triumph” – as opposed to the simple fact that is a consequence of five months of NATO-imposed terror.

Unlike the Western mainstream media, including CNN and BBC, Global Research has told the truth about NATO actions in Libya. Now the personal safety of independent journalists is at serious risk. Their lives have been threatened. We fear that this is just the beginning of a wider descent into bloody chaos that will befall Libya now that NATO has pushed its agenda of regime change to another notch.

Disturbingly, NATO’s illusion of “responsibility to protect” will be stretched to even further distortion in the coming months and years. As Libya’s state of Western-imposed anarchy looks set to transmogrify into yet another quagmire of Afghanistan and Iraqi proportions, the NATO powers are already preparing to invoke their criminal mandate to “protect” with more boots on the ground, the use of death squads and relentless manipulation of political proxies.

If Western publics seem confused and perplexed by their governments’ “wars without end” – the never-ending mayhem, body bags, dysfunctional administrations in far-off lands, terror blowback and budget-busting military costs – then one of the first things they should do is switch off the “ministry of disinformation”. The Western media has shown itself now in Libya – more than ever – to be systematically complicit in an ongoing criminal war on the world by Western capitalist powers.

NATO SLAUGHTER IN TRIPOLI: “Operation Mermaid Dawn” Signals Assault by Rebels’ Al Qaeda Death Squads

NATO SLAUGHTER IN TRIPOLI: “Operation Mermaid Dawn” Signals Assault by Rebels’ Al Qaeda Death Squads

Global Research, August 21, 2011

Tripoli, Libya, Aug. 22, 2011, 1 AM CET– On Saturday evening, at 8pm, when the hour of Iftar marked the breaking of the Ramadan fast, the NATO command launched its “Operation Mermaid Dawn” against Libya.

The Sirens were the loudspeakers of the mosques, which were used to launch Al Qaeda’s call to revolt against the Qaddafi government. Immediately the sleeper cells of the Benghazi rebels went into action. These were small groups with great mobility, which carried out multiple attacks. The overnight fighting caused 350 deaths and 3,000 wounded.

The situation calmed somewhat on Sunday during the course of the day.

Then, a NATO warship sailed up and anchored just off the shore at Tripoli, delivering heavy weapons and debarking Al Qaeda jihadi forces, which were led by NATO officers.

Fighting stared again during the night. There were intense firefights. NATO drones and aircraft kept bombing in all directions. NATO helicopters strafed civilians in the streets with machine guns to open the way for the jihadis.

In the evening, a motorcade of official cars carrying top government figures came under attack. The convoy fled to the Hotel Rixos, where the foreign press is based. NATO did not dare to bomb the hotel because they wanted to avoid killing the journalists. Nevertheless the hotel, which is where I am staying, is now under heavy fire.

At 11:30pm, the Health Minister had to announce that the hospitals were full to overflowing. On Sunday evening, there had been 1300 additional dead and 5,000 wounded.

NATO had been charged by the UN Security Council with protecting civilians in Libya. In reality, France and Great Britain have just re-started their colonial massacres.

At 1am, Khamis Qaddafi came to the Rixos Hotel personally to deliver weapons for the defense of the hotel. He then left. There is now heavy fighting all around the hotel.

What And Why In Libya?

What And Why In Libya

By Jim Kirwan
8-28-11

For months now the visceral and bloody slaughter of the nation of Libya has been seesawing its way across the news wires of the world. Lies have been flying like bullets-in-the-night about who is doing what to whom and in the chaos the real story behind this event has become nearly impossible to unravel.

First we need to know WHAT HAPPENED in Libya: Here is some of what Steven Lendman has said:

Never Forgive, Never Forget

Excerpts Stephen Lendman. 8/28/11

“After covering Libya’s rape since last winter in dozens of articles, no forgiving or forgetting is possible for one of history’s great crimes. Nor is ignoring those responsible, condemning them forthrightly, and explaining why all wars are waged. NATO outdid Orwell on this one, killing truth by calling war the responsibility to protect – by terrorizing, attacking, and slaughtering civilians like psychopathic assassins. As a result, honest historians will redefine barbarism to explain NATO’s savagery. It includes ongoing crimes of war and against humanity for the most malevolent reasons.

When is war not war?

It’s when committing cold-blooded murder is called the right thing.

When major media scoundrels cheerlead it, and when most people believe it because they’re too indifferent, uncaring or lazy to learn the truth. NATO’s rape of Libya is too ugly for proper words to describe.

Only honest images can do it, and lots of them. Instead, the Big Lie substitutes for honest journalism, especially on television where real (not fake) visuals can show mangled bodies, mass destruction, and other evidence of NATO crimes. Where civilian deaths can be shown graphically in living color. Where responsibility can be placed where it belongs. Where right and wrong can best be explained. Where repetition can arouse public outrage. Where proper analysis in advance perhaps can prevent all wars. …

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reports continued fighting in Tripoli, inflicting many casualties. Moreover, many injured can’t be treated because of ongoing violence, inadequate staff, and enough supplies and capacity at local hospitals. … Washington-led NATO turned Libya into a hellish inferno – step one before occupying and exploiting its resources and people. Months ago its wealth was stolen. Ahead will be its future if Libyans don’t struggle and win their freedom. …

Only war profiteers benefit, not taxpayers they steal from or victims they attack. At the same time, corrosive militarism, financial wars, and other destructive policies destroyed America’s soul. Its future as a free country is next. So focused on bread and circus distractions, most people don’t notice. How else can Washington get away with murder! …

Keep Libya’s freedom flame alive no matter how imperial monsters try to destroy it!

We’re all Libyans now! Their struggle is ours! It’s high time we matched their courageous spirit against the world’s most pernicious/destructive force. Bowed perhaps, they’re not broken! Isn’t that enough to raise our consciousness to support them! “(1)

Next we need to know WHY this happened.

To do this we must go back to history, for answers. And this is just one more reason why USI has eliminated “HISTORY” from the American classrooms all across this once proud nation. Below is a transcription that I made from the 9 minute and 23 second video that spells out Libya’s rise.

“In 1951 Libya was the world’s poorest country.

Before the NATO invasion Libyans enjoyed the highest standard of living in Africa and were ahead of Russia, Brazil and Saudi Arabia. Under Gadaffi Libya rose to become the world’s freest state where “homes were considered a human right.” Newly married couples were given $50,000 to buy their own homes and where electricity was free to all people.

Before Gadaffi, less than one-fifth of Libyans were literate (compared to America’s slightly more than half). Now education [was] free and high quality and the literacy rate is 83%. Healthcare was also free and high quality. And if Libyans cannot find the education or healthcare they needed in Libya, then the Libyan government funded them to go abroad to access it.

All ‘loans’ were interest free by law. If a Libyan bought a car then the government paid 50% of the price. The price of gasoline was $0.14 per liter. Any Libyan wishing to become a farmer was given free use of land, a home, livestock and seeds.

On July 1st 2011 1.7 million people assembled in Green Square, Tripoli to show defiance against the NATO bombing of Libya. This represented around 95% of the population of Tripoli and about one-third of the entire population of Libya!

The Libyan Central Bank was state owned and unlike ALL banks in the west was not owned by Rothschilds and issued DEBT FREE money.

In 1990 Libya was accused of being responsible for the Lockerbie Bombing of PAM-AM 103. It has [since] transpired that the US paid witnesses at the trial $4 million each to testify against the accused Libyan men.

Yes they were paid to lie and have since recanted their ‘evidence.’ Gadaffi was also working to change payment for Libya’s oil away from the US dollar to the Gold African dinar. This move prompted Sarkozy (of France) to call Libya ‘a threat to the security of Mankind.’

One of the first acts of the Libyan ‘Rebels’ was to create a new Central Bank to one that was owned by Rothschilds, just as ours in the West are. The Rothschilds family are estimated to own over half the world’s wealth.

Rothschild banks create money out of thin air and sell it to the people at interest. This means that we never have enough money to pay-back what is owed. So we and our unborn children are made DEBT-SLAVES to Rothschild banking interests.

Unlike our leaders, Cameron, Obama, Sarkozy, EU all, Gadaffi refused to sell his people out. Libya was DEBT-FREE!

Are you beginning to see why Gadaffi gets this response from his people?

And WHO is behind the NATO bombing of a free and sovereign people? Libyans had much that we do not have in the UK, USA and EU. [And for that matter have never had in those states] They have a leader who has integrity and courage and who works in their best interests and not the Rothschilds best interests.

Libyans shared in the wealth of their country free from the shackles of Usury and the Rothschilds banking interests. Without the tyranny of Rothschild control over the issuance of money, WE COULD ALL LIVE AS WEALTHY PEOPLE. We have been literally robbed of Trillions by Rothschild Bankers and their rent-boy politicians. We have been raped & enslaved, just as Libya will be raped and enslaved if we don’t stop this crime against humanity.

It has been estimated that 30,000 Libyans have been killed by NATO & its ‘REBELS.’ Gadaffi believes in direct democracy, as it is laid out in his book, “The Green Book.” I have put a link to his ‘Green Book’ below. Please read it. He believes that parliamentary democracies are inherently corrupt & that people can and should represent themselves.
After believing the lies about this man for all my life, this book amazed me! I cannot sit by any longer and watch how individuals, groups and countries are demonized and destroyed by our criminal governments and then watch media protect those responsible for crimes against humanity. I refuse to pay taxes to the criminals responsible for this. Stop paying for their bombs; refuse to pay your taxes. Don’t pay for the propaganda, Stop paying the BBC License Fee. We must show solidarity with the Libyan people.

If we sit by and watch these crimes against humanity and do nothing then we are complicit [just as we have been complicit for over 60 years in Palestine]. It will be our turn. Fuck NATO! Fuck the UN! Fuck the New WorldOrder!

It’s time to act people! It’s time to find our courage and rise-up. Mass Non-Compliance against the New WorldOrder!” (2)

The Libyan Soldiers: The True Heroes of NATO’s War

The Libyan Soldiers: The True Heroes of NATO's War

by Glen Ford

While NATO has proven its capacity to kill thousands of Libyan soldiers from the skies, it has failed to convey respectability to the marauding “rebels” under its wing, posing as freedom fighters. The latter, however, should not get too used to their spot in the limelight, which is sure to wane when their usefulness as NATO stooges eventually dries up. Meanwhile, for this author, the incinerated bodies of her soldiers have already secured Libya’s place in history.

The story is not over – not by a long shot – but the saga of the Libyan resistance to the superpower might of the United States and its degenerate European neocolonial allies will surely occupy a very special place in history.

For five months, beginning March 19, the armed forces of a small country of six million people dared to defy the most advanced weapons systems on the planet, on terrain with virtually no cover, against an enemy capable of killing whatever could be seen from the sky or electronically sensed. Night and day, the eyes of the Euro-American war machine looked down from space on the Libyan soldiers’ positions, with the aim of incinerating them. And yet, the Libyan armed forces maintained their unit integrity and personal honor, with a heroism reminiscent of the loyalist soldiers of the Spanish Republic under siege by German, Italian and homegrown fascists, in the late 1930s.

The Germans and Italians and Generalissimo Franco won that war, just as the Americans, British, French and Italians may ultimately overcome the Libyan army. But they cannot convey honor or national legitimacy to their flunkies from Benghazi, who have won nothing but a badge of servitude to foreign overseers. The so-called rebels won not a single battle, except as walk-ons to a Euro-American military production. They are little more than extras for imperial theater, a mob that traveled to battle under the protective umbrella of American full spectrum dominance of the air. They advanced along roads already littered with the charcoal-blackened bodies of far better men, who died challenging Empire.

One thing is sure: the Americans and Europeans have never respected their servants. The so-called rebels of Libya will be no different.

Washington, Paris and London know perfectly well that is was their 18,000 aircraft sorties, their cruise missiles, their attack helicopters, their surveillance satellites and drones, their command and control systems, their weapons, and their money, that managed to kill or wound possibly half the Libyan army. Not the rabble from Benghazi.

The rebels should not take too seriously being fawned over by the ridiculous hordes of corporate media tourists that have come to Tripoli to record the five-month war’s finale. They are highly paid cheerleaders. And, although it may appear that they are cheering for the rebels, don’t be fooled – at the end of the day, the western corporate media only cheer for their own kind. They are celebrating what they believe is a victory over the Libyan demon they have helped to construct in their countrymen’s minds.

Next year, rebel, that demon might be you. Or next year, it might be many Libyans, including those who were no friends of Col. Moammar Gaddafi. The Americans treat their native minions like children in need of supervision – and there is a certain logic to this, since whoever would entrust his nation’s sovereignty and resources to the Americans is, surely, either exceedingly stupid, or hopelessly corrupt. But Libya’s honor and her place in history has already been secured by a small African army that held out nearly half a year against the NATO barbarians.
